The letters "RD" after a person's name signify that he/she has completed academic and experience requirements established by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for ADA, including a minimum of a bachelor's degree granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college/university, or equivalent, and an accredited preprofessional experience program. RDs demonstrate their knowledge of food and nutrition by successfully passing a national credentialing exam and by completing ongoing continuing professional development.
Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapy (LMNT)
A Medical Nutrition Therapist assesses the nutritional status of patients. Medical Nutrition Therapy involves the assessment of patient nutritional status followed by treatment, ranging from diet modification to specialized nutrition support, such as determining nutrient needs for enteral and parenteral nutrition, and monitoring to evaluate patient response to such treatment.

Follow-up:
- Complaints are reviewed by Mike Gretsch, Program Manager for Professional & Occupational Licensing Investigations, who determines if it should be assigned to an investigator or simply logged. Either way, you will receive correspondence (form).
- If it is being assigned to an investigator, that persons name and phone number will be included on the form. If the investigator needs more information from you he/she will call.
- The investigators report will go to the Board in charge of Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapy. The Board will make a recommendation on the action.
- It is then sent to the State Attorney Generals office. He determines legally if he agrees on the action recommended.
